The Confirmation Program begins
in Grade 7 with a study of basic Catholic belief,
using a text entitled “One Faith, One Lord.”
Students are required to perform fifteen hours
of service in Grade 7, and to choose their Confirmation
sponsor. Students must pass a doctrinally-based
Confirmation test. Students and parents are expected
to attend two Confirmation preparatory meetings
during this year.
In Grade 8 Confirmation candidates
follow a scripture based curriculum, using “The
Catholic Youth Bible.” The purpose of this
program is to provide the candidates with a practical
preparation to living lives based on the Gospel
after Confirmation. Candidates are required to
perform fifteen hours of service as well as to
complete the Sponsor Information form and the
Confirmation Register Information sheet. Students
must write an essay entitled “Why I Want
to be Confirmed’ and a “Saints Name”
essay. Candidates, parents, and sponsors are expected
to attend three preparatory meetings during this
year.
In the Fall of Grade 9, a six-week
seminar is held which deals directly with the
sacrament of Confirmation. Candidates study the
history and theology of the sacrament, and are
familiarized with the rite of the sacrament itself.
The candidates are required to participate in
a Confirmation retreat before Confirmation, which
is usually held in late October. |
