The Youth Group meets every other
Wednesday at 6:30PM and ends at approximately
8:00PM beginning in the fall season at the Father
Horgan Parish Center. The mission of the Youth
Group is to provide a welcoming setting in which
the youth of our parish can engage in spiritual,
social, and service related activities with one
another and the adults of the parish.
Our meetings begin with prayer and
dinner. Dinner menus range from chicken parmigiana,
tacos, hotdogs, hamburgers, baked macaroni, steak
sandwiches, pizza and anything that is suggested.
After dinner we have an open floor session where
the youth can discuss numerous topics. We have
discussed what it means to be a follower of Jesus
and how to live a Christian life as a young person,
the death penalty, war, abortion, sex and drugs,
baseball, football -- you name it, we discuss
it. Our night always ends in prayer. We call it
“Circle Time.”
During the season of Lent we recreate the Last
Supper – with a Seder Meal. Currently we
have 25 young adults.
Twice a year we will run fund drives
that raise money for various charitable causes.
In the past we have donated money to Sacred Heart
/ Saint Peter School in New Haven, CT.
In the winter we hold our annual
ski trip. And in the summer we go to Six Flags
amusement park.

In 2002 we instituted a new program
called The Dead Theologian’s Society. The
DTS meets every other Wednesday meeting.
Inspired by the lives of the Saints
and the hit movie, The Dead Poet's Society, The
Dead Theologian's Society is an organization whose
mission is to pray for the release of the Holy
Souls in Purgatory and to educate young adults
in the Catholic faith using the lives and writings
of the saints.
The Dead Theologians Society was
started in November of 1997, in Newark, Ohio by
Eddie Cotter Jr. and Michael Barone. It began
as an addition to the other teen oriented programming
they were doing at St. Francis de Sales parish
in Newark. DTS has been rapidly growing ever since.
Now we're international, with groups meeting throughout
the United States, and several outside of the
country.
Society members study the lives
and writings of the Saints and seek their intercession.
In addition, belonging to the Church Militant,
members make use of time-honored Catholic prayers
and devotions such as Eucharistic Adoration, the
Rosary, the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel, the Divine Praises, the St. Gertrude's
Prayer, and intercessory prayer.
When a young adult has attended
5 consecutive DTS meetings they then become eligible
to be hooded. This coming fall 2003 will be the
first hooding ceremony, for those candidates that
completed the requirements mentioned above. Our
Youth Group was the first youth group in the State
of Connecticut to establish a chapter.
